What important event happened exactly 100 years ago today?
On February 2nd, 1922, James Joyce’s Ulysses was published as a complete novel by Sylvia Beach, the owner of the Paris legendary bookstore Shakespeare and Company.
Widely regarded as the greatest literary work of the 20th century, this experimental masterpiece beloved and hated equally, incomprehensible to millions of readers, has transformed our culture and literary world.
But as you might know, despite being one of the most celebrated novels, Ulysses is also one of the least read books of all time. That’s the main reason behind Combel’s Bath Time Classics by Patricia Geis. The purpose of publishing Ulysses and Moby Dick at a time was a statement as a whole. Our aim was very clear: “Maybe you couldn’t read them… But your baby will do!”
We invite you to celebrate the 1ooth anniversary of Ulysses by giving the book a second chance. Try another format. Why not?
Perhaps you didn’t like the novel as a paper book, but you’ll love it as a bath book! Who would dare to say that a bubble bath isn’t the ideal place to immerse yourself in reading a classic? Soaking in the tub with a book is one of life’s great pleasures.
Enjoy the celebration and read one of the most difficult novels in one go!
