After one year of readings, the winners of the 8th edition of the Llibre Vivent (Living Book) were finally unveiled last Saturday at the Palais des rois de Majorque, in Perpignan (France).
A very special award. How does it work?
The Llibre Vivent is much more than a literary prize. It is organised by the Media Library (Public Reading Service) of the Eastern Pyrenees Department. Every spring, the librarians shortlist about twenty Catalan children books. From September, and throughout the school year, boys and girls from schools and colleges in the Eastern Pyrenees read those selected titles and vote for their favorites. The winners are announced at the Llibre Vivent Festival in June.
We are very happy to announce that two of our titles won the prize this year:
- Keep your Eye on the Bad Wolf! (by Juan Arjona and Enrique Quevedo) in the category of 3-6 years old.
- The Amazing Creepy Granny House (by Meritxell Martí i Xavier Salomó) in the category of 6-9 years old.
The Llibre Vivent Festival
At Combel we couldn’t be happier to be part of this celebration. In a familiar atmosphere, the palace opens its doors for a free and festive day around literature. The event, which includes shows, readings, meetings and workshops, is carefully prepared by the Media Library in collaboration with educational, social and cultural groups. Thus, the Llibre Vivent highlights the value of the Catalan language, reinforces reading and bridges the home-school-library connection and builds a true community of new readers.
Llibre Vivent 9th edition Shortlist
If you are wondering about the shorlist for 2024-2025, The Picnic by Marta Comín has been nominated in the 3 to 6 years old category. We will have to wait a year to find out the winners. But it’s worth every minute of waiting, and reading!
