A wonderful start to the season!
While we are fixing appointments for Bologna and London Book Fairs (in person!) and working on the new Spring catalogue, we’ve learnt the excellent news that Pere Ginard artwork will be showcased at the Bologna Illustrators Exhibition 2022.
We found out that Pere sent a set of OOAK illustrations from his “Encyclopaedia of all living, dead and imagined”. These are pieces from his Sketchbooks that make part of Pere’s cabinet of wonders — his long term project “Wunderkammer”. Such an amazing work will be on show in Bologna. The must-see exhibition to visit this spring!
This very much personal work might seem far from the illustrations from The Legend of King Arthur and His Knights. Published 10 years ago in our series for older readers “Time for Classics“, it was the first full rewriting in Spanish of the Arthurian series.
Based on the different literary sources of this universal legend, Antoni Dalmases translated the Mediaeval epic into current and accessible language. In turn, Pere Ginard’s magnificent illustrations splendidly recreate the characters and the atmosphere of the time.
We invite you to contemplate his interpretation of sixteen Arthuriam episodes through 25 prints that go from the Merlin’s Birth and Childhood through the Wedding of Arthur and Guinevere, Lancelot’s feature and the Great Combat till the Death of Arthur.
As it is stated in the epilogue, “text and illustrations are dedicated to those infinite heroic knights and noble maidens, whose stories remain to be told. To all of them, knights and ladies, nobles and lords, brave and in love, lovers of all times, ever present, may the glory and fame they deserve, be recognised through the humble homage that those pages are meant to be!”.
While we wait for meeting up in Bologna, we invite you to re-read The Legend of King Arthur and look at Pere’s amazing illustrations.
