We have good news and want to share them with you. One of our most beloved illustrators, Pep Montserrat has been awarded with the National Illustration Prize by the Spanish Ministry of Culture.
The jury values his great capacity to construct meanings that go beyond the simple visual display with his own recognisable voice. Also, the technical mastery, versatility and openness towards different fields of graphic illustration that have made him an indisputable point of reference for many professionals.
As you know, Pep Montserrat has always been one of our pillars. He has collaborated in the projects that define the most committed editorial adventures of Combel, such as the “Horse series”, the EcoSphere imprint or the “Time for Classics” collection. His illustrations give the most appropriate tone for each age range, without losing his personal voice. Here are his works:
The Witches of Ariete written by Bel Olid. A fun and sweet picture book, written in verse and valuing deference by Bel Olid.
Wild in the City written by Teresa Franquesa. A non-fiction lift-the-flap book about those animals that live alongside us in the hidden corners of towns and cities.
Last but not least, Pep Montserrat masterfully reinterprets essential works of universal literature within range of young readers such as The Odyssey, adapted by Albert Jané, winner of the 2024 Honorary Award of Catalan Literature. Together they found the right choice of language, manage to maintain the tone and grace of this classic of all times.
In the same series, you’ll also find The Adventures of Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, the most translated book after the Bible. Now that the summer holidays are upon us, we invite you to leaf through the book and enjoy its illustrations while you listen to the story the most famous wooden doll in history. A delightful and exciting month awaits you. What better way to start the summer?
Congratulations, Pep! And here’s to many more books to come!
