Celebrating International Museum Day 2022 with a purpose
As every 18th May, museums from all around the world celebrate International Museum Day (IMD).
This year the slogan is “The power of museums”. The purpose is to explore the potential of museums to bring about positive change in their communities through three lenses: achieving sustainability, innovating on digitalisation and accessibility and community building through education.
According to ICOM: “Today, more than ever museums face unique challenges related to social, economic and ecological issues. While serving as witnesses of the past and guardians of humanity’s treasures for future generations, museums play a key role in development through education and democratisation.”
In Combel, we foster the power of museums to transform the world around us. We also advocate for their significant role by providing learning opportunities to all and stimulating critical thinking.
Last year we published Perdido en el museo [Inside the Museum Mazes], written and illustrated by Luisa Vera. Since then, it has been sold to 8 languages that span the globe.
Today, more than ever, it is a privilege for Combel to contribute to raise awareness among children around the world of the importance of museums to build a better future. It is our bit to help museums to gain international visibility, promoting cultural exchange and education for peace.
